As a student, the future founder of Clerk.io got his first job at Unisport, a fast-growing football e-commerce company. Back then, the eCommerce team was tiny—just 4 or 5 people. But the company had big ambitions and needed to grow internationally.

Working closely with the CEO, he took on the technical responsibility of keeping the website running and quickly gained a front-row seat to the challenges of scaling an online store.

During his time at Unisport, he encountered a recommendation engine—a system designed to suggest products based on customer data. While the concept was exciting, the execution wasn’t.
